The Weekly Sugar Rush – is it Time for a Spring Clean – Inside and Out!

This Sunday coming, March 30th, marks the first day of spring! I love this time of year—it’s full of optimism, new beginnings, and fresh energy.

With longer days, we naturally feel more productive. Many of us start spring cleaning—packing away winter duvets, swapping out clothes, even rearranging furniture. But what about an internal spring clean? Now is the perfect time to give your liver some extra support.

Your liver is responsible for over 500 different functions, including hormone balance, clearing toxins, and converting stored fat into energy. When it’s struggling, so are you—leaving you sluggish, bloated, and storing toxins in fat around your middle. Signs of liver overload include fatigue, under-eye bags, and feeling generally run down.

Here are five simple ways to support your liver and boost your energy:

  1. Eat lighter, more colourful foods – Swap heavy, starchy meals for fresh, raw, or lightly steamed options to maximize nutrients.

  2. Stay hydrated – Water is key! Try swapping every other tea or coffee for hot water with lemon to help flush out toxins.

  3. Go green! – In Chinese medicine, the liver is linked to the colour green. Load up on greens to support detoxification.

  4. Take an Epsom salt bath – The magnesium aids detox, balances hormones, improves sleep, and stabilizes blood sugar.

  5. Ditch alcohol for 3–4 weeks – Alcohol is the liver’s biggest burden. Cutting it out can ease hot flushes, reduce cravings, and boost your mood.

Stick with these habits for at least 28 days, and you’ll feel the difference—inside and out.
